festival sette parole

“Young people will see through my example that even out of nothing something can be born: what I am is only the work of the most pressing need.”

F.J.Haydn

The project

The idea that guided the birth and growth of Festival Sette Parole was to propose a more accessible
alternative to listening to classical music that remains in the common imagination, elitist, intellectual and “too cultured” music.

We envisioned a festival that could be able to talk to the viewer in a freer way and away from stereotypes. That why, in addition to concerts, we filled our space with aperitifs, open rehearsals and listening guides.

Places

Chiesa della Nunziatina

Hidden among the alleys behind the magnificent Todi Cathedral is the Chiesa della Nunziatina, so nicknamed because it was the seat of the Confraternity of the Most Holy Annunciation. Thanks to legacies bestowed by Bishop Angelo Cesi, Francesco degli Atti and other benefactors, a number of the Carocci houses, adjacent to the Landi- Corradi Palace, known as del Vignola, were purchased, and in 1609 construction work on the new church was begun. From the outside, the plastered facade suggests nothing extraordinary, but as soon as you enter the doorway, you are astounded by the wealth of frescoes and canvases. Opened in 1613, the church houses works by local Baroque artists including Andrea Polinori.
In 1699 a fire destroyed the coffered ceiling, decorated with carved and gilded rosettes, and part of the frescoes. Bishop Giuseppe Pianetti had the roof rebuilt and commissioned painter Paolo Barla to decorate the vault with frescoes to complete the restoration of the church after the fire.
The subject he chose for the central scene is not what one would expect in a Church dedicated to the Annunciation, namely The Annunciation, but rather the moment before it.

The painter depicted God in the act of handing the lily to the Archangel Gabriel, the same lily that
he will hand to the Virgin.

Palazzo del Vignola

The Palazzo Landi Corradi, or del Vignola, is located next to the Chiesa della Nunziatina. The building was purchased in 1712 by Bishop Filippo Antonio Gualtieri to move the archiepiscopal seat there. Later, for the expansion of the palace, some adjacent houses of the Cherubini family were
bought and then the premises of the archiepiscopal see were connected with the Chiesa della Nunziatina.
The name of the palace derives from the attribution of a portal and inner courtyard to the architect Jacopo Barozzi da Vignola, commonly called the Vignola, who came to Todi to supervise the construction of the Consolation.
The seminary was then decommissioned in 1959, and from that time the building began hosting events, conferences and exhibitions.
On April 25, 1982, a very serious fire in the building caused destruction and 35 deaths: many antiquarians, booth holders and visitors lost their lives in the fire. In memory of the victims, a memorial plaque was placed on the facade of the palace.
After a long restoration, the Palazzo del Vignola was reopened in 1993. Its function once again became the hub of Todi’s cultural activities, hosting exhibitions and cultural events and also concerts and events for the general public.

Support Festival Sette Parole!

Supporting a cultural project like Festival Sette Parole does not only mean contributing financially to the realization of an event. Many artists, especially young ones, constantly face difficulties such as finding the right space where they can express themselves, or having an audience that appreciates their creativity and above all to share it.

We are confident to continue the project and hope in the future to develop it more with new activities and proposals.
